Every item in Cocol tells a story. Pottery, baskets, blown glass, hats; handcrafted pieces, each personally chosen by Pepa Entrena, the owner of this marvellous shop in the heart of Madrid, focusing on Spanish traditional crafts. Pepa travels several times a year all around Spain, searching for new artisans, new objects, new stories. “Frequently, they are old people, with no internet nor anyone to pass their knowledge onto. Others are new craftsmen and craftswomen, who combine contemporary designs and traditional techniques”, explains Pepa. In her own words, Cocol is “a childhood memory of the village house’s smell in summer”, and a sustainable way of producing, selling and buying, something that cities need to stay alive.
