The B&M Theocharakis Foundation for the Fine Arts and Music first opened its doors to the public in 2007. The heritage building, built by the architect Vassilis Tsagris at the end of the 1920s, is located in the heart of Athens, just across from the Greek Parliament. The non-profit organisation, founded by Bassilis and Marina Theocharaki, focuses on music and visual arts, promoting the work of Greek artists both in Greece and internationally, leaning particularly towards modern art and its continued development over the 20th and 21st century.
The foundation organises an engaging programme of events from temporary exhibitions and concerts to seminars, lectures and educational courses. Recent exhibitions include one organised in collaboration with the National Gallery-Alexandros Soutzos Museum which explores the human form in 20th century Greek painting, and an exhibition dedicated to the work of the Greek painter Dimitris Koukos.
