The art of the handmade tile

The XVIII Project was brought to life in 2018 by a lawyer passionate about art, Rodrigo Almeida Dias, and a widely experienced ceramicist, Alberto Bruno. The aim was to recapture the art of the handmade, hand painted tile from the 18th century (the golden age of tiles in Portugal, hence the name). To do so, the company selected the most representative designs and gathered together a team comprising some of the most talented artists in the business, capable of executing the elaborate ancient techniques used to make these tiles. Visitors to the shop can not only browse the tiles and pottery but also witness the process behind them, since some items are painted by the artists on site.
