The Weltmuseum Wien is an ethnological museum located in the Neue Burg wing of the Hofburg, the former imperial palace. The extensive collection was previously exhibited at the Kunsthistorisches Museum and was dedicated its own museum in 1928.The museum gives visitors an insight into different parts of the world from the 16th century onwards, the earliest exhibited artefact dates back to that period.
Visitors are presented with a diverse collection of treasures from different cultures, all around the world. The museum not only highlights the beauty of centuries-old artefacts, but also draws links between the objects and the social life of the time. The anthropologists responsible for curating the exhibitions aim to help visits discern and understand social change through the exhibits.
