The National Museum of Slovenia in Ljubljana was founded by the Carniolan State Parliament in 1821. It is the oldest museum in Slovenia and explores in depth the rich history and cultural heritage of the Slovenian territory. The museum houses an extensive collection of objects relating to the applied arts which document the cultural heritage of Slovenia throughout all periods and are displayed in various permanent exhibition spaces.

From traditional home furnishings to contemporary creations, each object bears witness to a point in Slovenia’s history and tells a unique story. Six departments collect, document and preserve this treasurable cultural heritage. Additionally the museum houses items from Roman antiquity and Egyptian history. A programme of lectures, guided tours and workshops provide an immersive experience for visitors to the museum. The museum also curates temporary exhibitions.
