In its new building, inaugurated in 2002, and in three historic houses renovated in 2015, the National Museum of History and Art (Musée national d'histoire et d'art - MNHA) shows the national archaeological, historical and artistic collections. It is a key cultural attraction for those who wish to understand the history of Luxembourg through its public collections. The museum’s prologue offers an uplifting introduction by displaying a brief history of the country and the museum since 1839. Visitors are then invited to continue their journey along four circuits: territorial archaeology, national and international painting and sculpture from the 14th century, life in Luxembourg from the 16th century, and monetary history from antiquity to the present day.

The museum’s Arts and Crafts section has a broad collection that was started in the inter-war period and was initially referred to as the “folklore” collection. Renamed “Vie luxembourgeoise” in the 1980s. The Arts and Crafts section, over the years, acquired hundreds of pieces of furniture and objects reflecting daily life in Luxembourg or illustrating the evolution of local industry and crafts.
