This little yet impressive branch of Nizhny Novgorod State History and Architecture Museum and Reserve houses folk art and craft from the 17th to the 21st centuries. Visitors can explore a typical peasant home containing decorative architraves and household items. Among other things, carved wooden gates and furniture with antique symbols catch the eye.

The museum exhibits around 4,000 objects unravelling the history and evolution of crafts in Nizhny Novgorod. Every kind of craft on display was once typical of a certain part of the region. Khokhlomskaya, gorodetskaya and polkhovsko-maidanskaya paintings can be seen here, as well as filigree, ceramics, metalwork, stone carvings and examples of traditional costumes and embroidery.
