The Kizhi Museum is one of the largest open air museums in Russia, which occupies an island in the middle of Lake Onega. This small piece of land is home to culture that is tenderly preserved by the museum complex. Kizhi is a remarkable site, famous for its unique wooden architecture, parts of which are on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Among the wide range of activities on the island, visitors can take tours and discover craft demonstrations.

Showcasing crafts typical of the Karelia region, demonstrations reveal the connection between natural materials and ideas for their use in an isolated place such as Kizhi. You will witness the practice of different types of crafts such as embroidery, lacemaking, pottery, birch bark twinning, wood painting and carpet weaving. Some demonstrations take place inside fairy tale buildings, others outside, in a field. In such striking surroundings, you can reimagine the whole idea of visiting a master in a workshop and discover a new outdoor activity. Craft demonstrations cost 500 rubles; tours, programmes and packages vary in price from 100 to 3500 rubles.
