The Diamant Museum Amsterdam was founded in 2007 by the world famous diamond polisher, and owner of Royal Coster Diamonds, the late Ben Meier. Being one of the oldest active diamond companies in Amsterdam's 400 years of history as the capital of diamonds, the mother company of the museum, Royal Coster Diamond gained fame with a commission to repolish the famous Koh-I-Noor diamond in 1852, and received its royal status in 2016.

The museum is located next to the Rijksmuseum in the heart of Amsterdam’s Museumplein, under the same roof as its founding company, in a 17th century quartet of monumental buildings. The museum relates the story of diamonds from 800 BCE up to the present day, allowing visitors to see the rough diamonds, traditional tools for achieving perfect symmetry, and to understand how Amsterdam became the diamond capital of the world. The visitor’s experience is enriched with viewings of the Diamond Ape Skull, composed of 17,000 brilliantly cut diamonds, and the cross-cultural Crown Collection, presented in cooperation with René Brus.
