Established in 2014, the Centre for Innovation and Design (CID) promotes contemporary design through a programme of exhibitions. The CID focuses on innovation and experimental research in the sectors of design, architecture and applied arts. Located in the Grand-Hornu in the heart of the Province of Hainaut, listed as a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 2012, it is a beautiful building dating back to the Industrial Revolution. It is now one of Belgium’s leading cultural centres, also housing the Museum of Contemporary Arts since 2002.

The CID curate three to five exhibitions each year, dedicated to our current society. Some of the exhibitions are dedicated to Belgian or international designers, and others to thematic exhibitions centred on the concept of utopias. A mediation programme is organised around the exhibitions to guide the with the public. The design showcased at CID seeks to change the perspective of onlookers and encourage a new vision, a different way of seeing, thinking and working.
