Visit to the studio and gallery of Massimo Micheluzzi

Massimo Micheluzzi welcomes visitors to his Venetian studio and gallery in Dorsoduro. Born in Venice in 1957, he first got in touch with glass when working as a photographer for the renowned Venini glass manufacturer. After a long apprenticeship in the furnace, he opened his own business. Massimo’s glassworks pay homage to the traditions of Murano while revealing an experimental, eclectic and uniquely modern aesthetic. On the tour, participants will see the workspace where he lays out his mosaic patterns that later become vases in the furnace and the gallery displaying his elaborate artworks.

Massimo Micheluzzi

Glassblowing

Unique Italian glass designMassimo Micheluzzi uses traditional techniques to achieve a uniquely modern aesthetic. He is one of very few contemporary Muranese artists to successfully employ classic murrina and battuto techniques for a disciplined, sober vision. While many Italian glass designers are traditionally beholden to the skills of the master glassblower, Massimo maintains an unusual amount of control over the making process of his works. His modern designs and ancient techniques bridge old and new, tradition and innovation. Massimo's work stands out among a new generation of Muranese artists benefiting simultaneously from the island's heritage and its future.
