Chiso's historical archive uncovered

30 minutesFree

Founded in 1555 as a manufacturer of ceremonial robes, Chiso remains at the forefront of Kyoto-style yuzen textile dyeing. Renowned for its elegant kimono and innovative designs, Chiso produces a diverse array of textile goods in the constant pursuit of beauty. The Chiso Gallery is located on the second floor of its flagship store in central Kyoto. The gallery displays Chiso’s valuable historical archive, a collection of around 20,000 pieces that includes kimono, Japanese paintings, and ancient documents. Events and exhibitions where visitors can experience the vision that informs Chiso’s timeless aesthetic are held periodically throughout the year. The guided tour takes place in Japanese.
