Learn the secrets of goldbeating
45 minutes Max 5 people50 eurosThe experience is as unique as the setting, which is the mansion where Renaissance painter Tiziano Vecellio lived and worked. Discover the secrets of an ancient craft, which arrived in Venice around the year 1000 during the Byzantine Empire: the craft of the goldbeater, who beats small ingots into leaves so delicate that they become edible. This trade had disappeared at the end of the 19th century, but was brought back to life in 1926 thanks to the vision of one brave woman. Learn the history of this craft by visiting Berta Battiloro. Witness the phases of gold transformation as it is first fused and laminated, then hand-beaten, cut, and finally packed. For groups of more than five people, an extra ten euros per person will be charged. On Saturdays and Sundays the price is 500 euros regardless of the number of participants (max 30 people). By appointment only.
