Discover the world of natural dye making
30 minutes Max 20 peopleFreeStep into another era of the past with a guided tour of La Robbia, the laboratory where Maurizio Savoldo makes dyes for Sardinian wool and other natural fabrics using wild local plants and plant waste. Visitors will discover the ancient and almost forgotten art of natural dyeing, which Maurizio has rescued from oblivion with the help of local elders. During the visit, attendees will learn what kind of plants are used in the process, how they are treated to obtain colour pigments and how yarn is dyed with a 100 per cent eco-friendly, sustainable method. The visit ends at the lab’s shop, where many items, either naturally-dyed or eco-printed by La Robbia, can be purchased. A longer guided tour of 1 hour is possible, at a small cost of 5 euros per person.
