Jordi Ribas Ros developed this course for those who have not yet enjoyed working with wood manually. Together with Jordi, participants will build a stool. Participants will practise measuring and fitting with a square and will learn about the different characteristics of local wood. Using a gage, saws, brushes, chisels, sandpaper and other tools, participants will discover the basics of manual woodworking, and the beauty of this age-old process. Those who have finished this level, may move onto the second level of Jordi’s course. For course dates, please contact Jordi in advance. The course takes place over 3 days, with 4 hours of tuition each day.
Make your own chair

This second level of Jordi Ribas Ros’ course is for those who passed the first level, or those with experience in carpentry, who wish to delve further. Together, participants will build a typical Mallorcan kitchen chair in wood. Under Jordi’s guidance, the participants will observe the elegance of the chair’s curves and they will practise the inserts, while using the tail brush, polishing iron, scrapes and other tools. Together they will build a traditional chair by marking, cutting, fitting, gluing, sanding and applying the chosen finishing touches. For course dates, please contact Jordi in advance. Hone your woodworking skills with a master

Those who have passed the previous levels of Jordi Ribas Ros’ course may advance into the final stage, where participants will be able to create a functional object using traditional techniques that cannot be imitated by machinery. With Jordi’s guidance, participants will first be exposed to more types of wood and choose the right wood for their project. After sketching, participants will mark, cut, fit, sand and finish their object. The main motivation in this module will be using wooden forms in various combinations to create an object with an original and harmonious aesthetic. For course dates, please contact Jordi in advance.
