Discover the art of ikebana from forest to composition

90 minutes Max 5 peopleFrom 8,800 yen per person

From nature observation to flower arranging techniques, learn ikebana in the mountains around the Japanese city of Kamakura with master designer Toru Watarai. After a brief introduction to ikebana art and his own style, Toru will take students to the woods around his studio (the walk is optional), so that they can observe nature and choose flowers and branches themselves. Back at the studio, participants will try their hand at arranging the plants following the rules of ikebana. Toru will comment on his students’ work and suggest suitable changes at the end of each lesson. Intensive courses may be arranged, but the artist suggests that students come back a few times during the year to experience seasonal changes in flowers and nature. Courses are 8,800 yen per lesson for groups, 38,500 yen per hour for private lessons.
