Learn the basics of paper marbling
3 hours£70 per personPaper marbling is a centuries-old decorative technique where paint is floated on thickened water and manipulated with various tools to create striking designs that are then transferred to paper. Used for books, stationery and to line drawers, marbled paper was once a huge industry in the UK, but these days so few people are masters of paper marbling that it is considered a rare craft. Lucy McGrath is one of the few British artisans giving this art a future. In this fun, creative workshop for beginners held in her small London studio, Lucy will teach participants the basics of paper marbling, showing them how to set up the marbling bath with thickened water, prepare the paper and use certain techniques to control the behaviour of paint and create patterns. Each participant will come away with 12-18 pieces of marbled paper, which they can opt to have made into a beautiful hand bound notebook for an extra cost. A rewarding, cathartic and addictive experience for anyone who enjoys being creative.
