Learn to forge your own silver spoon

15 hours Max 4 people450 chf per person plus material costs

As our oldest and most basic eating tool, the spoon imitates our hand scooping water. Designing and forging your own personal spoon is a thrilling experience. By applying basic silversmith hammer techniques, participants learn about the outstanding malleability of silver. After designing the spoon, you'll start with a 4mm thick rectangular piece of silver and shape it with the hammer to the desired form, by contracting, stretching, broadening, sinking and planishing the metal. After the hammer work, the spoon is filed and finished with pumice and an emery cloth. Participants will be able to take their spoon home with them. In addition to the course cost, material costs can be about 120chf for a medium-sized spoon. Scheduled courses are published on Barbara's website.
