Krestetskaya Strochka is a special style of drawn thread embroidery that originated in the mid 19th century in Novgorod region. Founded in 1929, the Krestetskaya Strochka factory survived drastic historical changes, but always continued to exist, and in 2015 its new owners restored the building. This tour takes you through the origins and unique features of drawn thread embroidery and gives you the chance to see embroidery pieces that have been preserved since the foundation of the factory, which are due to be exhibited in a factory museum scheduled to open in summer 2020. Visitors can also observe all stages of production from fabric preparation to packaging, learn about embroidery techniques, and try the craft themselves under the guidance of a master craftswoman. Tour guests get a 20 percent discount in the factory shop. Guided tours must be booked in advance. An English translator can be arranged on request.
