Ultima

The featherweight vessel is hand-knitted using a spun-linen thread, then treated with resin and pigment, and shaped on a mould. Much of the linen yarn used by Gjertrud Hals was grown and spun by the artist herself, some 40 years ago.

Gjertrud got the idea to combine knitted linen thread with resin while watching her son make skis in his workshop, combining wood and resin. He taught Gjertrud how to use resin, and after a lot of testing, the artisan came up with the technique for her Ultima vessel series.
