x + l

Amsterdam-based design duo Xander Vervoort and Leon van Boxtel go by the name x+l. Drawing on their backgrounds in theatre and art, they founded x+l studio in 1996, focusing on interior design. Over the years they have worked in a number of disciplines: photography, advertising, stage design, fashion and exhibition design. In addition to their commissioned work, the duo creates handmade objects that are unique or produced in very small numbers. The x+l studio consists of just the two founders, who work closely together with artisan friends, which enables them to maintain the very personal view that is x+l. x+l started a collaboration with the artisan workshop Phantom Hands in 2018.
