Diego Poloniato

Ceramicist

Diego Poloniato is a master ceramicist who specialises in making traditional “cuchi” and “arcicuchi” – Venetian terracotta whistles – that are a symbol of the awakening of nature and a message of love. Founded in 1990, his laboratory is located in Nove, in the province of Vicenza, renowned for its artistic ceramics. His works feature animals and famous literary characters such as Pinocchio. Hyper-realistic animals are his favourite subjects, along with complex epic or religious scenes. The sound of each one has its own unique tone, due to its varying size and shape. In 2020, Poloniato received the prestigious accolade MAM or “Maestro d’Arte e Mestieri” from the Fondazione Cologni for his works and also for the precious training he has done to keep this craft alive.
