This hand punched portrait is of Anya Paintsil’s sister, Mair. It is loosely inspired by a poem 'Adar Rhiannon' from a collection of ancient Welsh and Celtic myths. Rug-hooking is a method of making textiles that has been passed down by generations of Welsh women and is associated with communities unable to afford tapestries. She employs Black and Afro hairstyling techniques.
