The Wedgwood story began in 1759, when Josiah Wedgwood – considered today the father of English potters – started as an independent potter in Burslem, Staffordshire. An astute businessman and patron of the arts, he quickly became Britain's most inspired and successful ceramics pioneer and potter to Her Majesty the Queen, thanks to permission granted by Queen Charlotte. His genius took English pottery from a cottage craft to an artform and soon Wedgwood creations and masterpieces started to appear on the tables of the world’s royal families and heads of state.

Wedgwood is today an international brand, manufacturing fine china, porcelain and other luxury creations. At the Wedgwood factory, modern technology combines with the ancient skills of throwing, modelling and decorating. These precious skills are preserved through a solid apprenticeship programme, reintroduced to meet growing global demand for some of Wedgwood's most exclusive signature pieces, such as the iconic Jasperware collection, in a pure neoclassical style.
