Michel Bernardaud, heir to five generations of porcelain manufacturers, is the current CEO and Chairman of the eponymous company, integrating the legendary heritage of Limoges porcelain into every area of modern lifestyle: decorative arts, jewellery, innovative tableware and one-of-a-kind art works created by contemporary artists. At the Bernardaud factory, each fine porcelain object goes through multiple steps involving many skills and expertise, each relying on the hands of craftspeople. Every artisan (whether a modeller, colourist, finisher or transfer decorator) draws, shapes, enamels, assembles, decorates or inspects by hand, ensuring excellence in execution and constant transmission of ancient techniques to the younger generations.ons.
The industrial and artistic adventure of Bernardaud began in 1863 in Limoges, a region possessing kaolin, fresh water and forests; the key elements to create porcelain. Limoges was the birthplace of the Ancienne Manufacture Royale in 1737, purchased by Bernardaud in 1986, which today creates identical replicas of 18th and 19th centuries shapes and patterns of historical porcelain pieces.
