Katrin Wouters and Karen Hendrix first met at Antwerp’s Royal Academy of Fine Arts. Here they developed their understanding of wearable art under the guidance of the jewellery department. As goldsmiths, they focused on conceptual forms and unique pieces. As part of the graduating class that produced the legendary Antwerp Six, they had the vision to move beyond the classic designs and conventional methods. Since the start of the brand in 1984, Wouters & Hendrix has created wearable sculptures that are defined by unexpected combinations of materials, old-world techniques and time-honoured craftsmanship.
Every design is passed directly through the hands of one of the atelier’s ten goldsmiths. With inspiration coming from – typically Belgian - surrealist art, the perfection of nature and dreamy poetic words, biannual collections are developed. Wouters & Hendrix creatively experiments with visual language by bringing an imaginative richness to traditional luxury. Deliberately unnerving and illogical at times, there is always an element of surprise.
