Bronze treasures

  • • Valentina grew up in the mountains
  • • She used to be a fine art restorer
  • • Her special technique is lost wax casting

A passion for art and architecture and a degree in Art History led Valentina Romen to work in the fine art scene for many years, as a restorer and organiser of museum and gallery exhibitions. But manual work has always been an unfulfilled desire, at least until she attended the Scuola Orafa Ambrosiana in Milan, and she became a jewellery maker. “In 2017, I decided to devote myself completely to jewellery making and this became my job. It’s a dream-like profession, I’m very grateful that I’m able to express my creativity through carefully selected shapes and materials, like bronze and clay. Jewellery is not merely the fusion of metals, but rather visions coming from distant worlds,” she explains.

Neckpiece – Lavater Collection

Valentina Romen’s Lavater collection was inspired by Johann Caspar Lavater’s work on physiognomy. The idea of this cast red bronze neckpiece is that the uniqueness of face traits lends itself to free interpretation, and what at first appears like an irrational line hanging from a necklace will slowly become a specific and familiar face to its observer.

Ring – Rough Edges collection

Valentina Romen’s Rough Edges collection results from the search for poetry and elegance from the apparent rigidity and brutality of matter. The body of this red bronze ring is relatively thick to retain a memory of the coarseness of the original matter. Its uneven-sized prismatic heads, almost closing the circle, are the result of free-flowing inspiration and the exploration for refinement.

Ring – Two Souls in One collection

Two apparently independent elements find each other, complement each other, softly join, becoming one. In this silver ring, two completely different endings wrap around the finger and are joined by only one common soft line that unites their diversity. The technique to create this line relies on matching the wax carving and the consequent lost wax casting in silver.
