A respectful rhythm

  • • Valentin combines architecture with nature
  • • Balance between stability and beauty is his priority
  • • He works with Swiss wood only

Born and raised in Switzerland, Valentin Lehner has always been surrounded by trees, in woodlands and forests. For him, wood is life and the essence of all things as it derives from the natural landscape; it lends itself to many processes as it is hard yet flexible. Working with wood has a slow rhythm and the timings must be respected as once cut, wood must dry in the right way. Valentin expresses the entire process and his respect for it, through his creations. He exclusively uses and values the wood of his land to shape and create furniture components that combine architectural, artistic and practical sensitivity, unique pieces that are modern but at the same time communicate tradition.

Rose sur pied

Bringing together different materials such as tinted fibreboard or the veneer of precious wood such as the Zebrano, the different assemblies form designs of a remarkable beauty. The top is a compass rose and the bottom is a combination of squares. The relatively thin legs give this piece an impression of lightness.

Voyage au centre de l’arbre

For this series of tables, the trees are selected for their visual qualities. Once cut, a first period of outdoor drying begins lasting between three to ten years. The tree trunk is then carefully worked to keep the natural structure of the wood while guaranteeing the longevity of the piece. When this manual part is finished, a second phase of drying inside begins. The piece is then reworked and a dispersion is applied to further enhance the piece and provide lasting protection.
