Occhi is an oval shaped vase with a clear lip. Its pattern of different sized squares is made with murrine in orange and white. The surface was sandblasted, giving it a matte finish. The second vase, Stars, is made in the same way with star shaped murrine. It has a shiny finish due to no sandblasting being applied.

A boundless exploration of glass

The first time Torsten Rötzsch had the chance to experiment with glass was at Zwiesel glass school where he spent two years learning glass design. The fact that he was able to execute all his ideas and define the size, shape and colour of objects motivated him to become the glassmaker he is today, happy to take on challenging projects. Free and mould blown glass, furnace work, kiln casting, glueing and coldworking for finishes are the techniques he uses most. “I gathered my knowledge from many different, mainly international masters or artists whose work I saw. Some I had the chance to meet and learn directly from. The whole network around the Bild-Werk Frauenau Summer Academy in the Bavarian Forest, which invites great artists every year to teach there, was and still is very influential to my work.”

This deep red bowl with a green lip comes with two slightly conical drinking glasses that are made from clear glass with fine diagonal white lines.

Roman replicas
This is a flat and slightly conical raised bowl made with blue glass. It has three small clear feet. The surface is engraved with fine lines using a diamond tip. The amphora next to it is made from fine clear glass and has a short body with a flared neck. Two symmetrical round handles connect the body and the neck.

Persevere
This installation was made by Torsten Roetzsch with 21 very thinly blown cylindrical vessels, all stacked into each other. The tint of the glass, between green and blue, intensifies towards the centre due to the stacking. The biggest vessel is 24 cm in diameter.
