Founded in 1927, the atelier Tessanda is a testament of fine craftsmanship in the Swiss region of Engadine. The workshop is entirely run by women, echoing the era of when it was created. At the time, women represented the majority of the local population; various opportunities were put in place for them, and that is how what started as a sewing course for young women of the valley became a renowned atelier that thrives to this day, almost 100 years later.

Tessanda is one of only a handful of remaining professional hand weavers in Switzerland. In their workshop in Santa Maria Val Müstair, every piece is still woven exclusively by hand on traditional looms. Tessanda values sustainability, tradition, craftsmanship and meaningfulness, and is proud to represent a traditional way of weaving that was never lost. Their pieces can be bought in their own shop in Santa Maria, and visits are organised to give an insight into the world of Tessanda.
