Teixits Vicens was launched in 1854 in Pollença, a village in the north of Mallorca, to make fabrics with Ikat, a technique used to create a distinct style of textile patterns. After learning to weave fabrics with this technique, five generations of artisans transformed over the years their small woollen weaving workshop into a family manufacturer. Today Vicens is recognised for its Mallorcan fabrics with exclusive and colourful designs, known locally as Roba de llengües (cloth of tongues), and for its collections of handmade products for the home and fashion such as cushions, tablecloths, napkins, curtains, bedspreads, bags, esparto shoes and clothes.
Joana and Cati Vicens Capllonch, the current owners, have followed in the footsteps of their predecessors, especially their father master artisan Martí Vicenç Alemany and their mother Antonia Capllonch, who turned the weavings of the factory into a cultural heritage and ensured the conservation and transformation of the family business. Continuing the family legacy is Joana and Cati’s challenge, ensuring preservation, innovation and improvement is a priority as Teixits Vicens is one of the last places in Europe where fabrics are made with the Ikat technique. Many well-known fashion brands place their trust in its know-how.
