When twin brothers Klaas and Martijn Remmen decided to attend a Steiner school at the age of 16, their love for traditional techniques flourished. Afterwards, they both studied Conservation and Restoration at the Artesis Plantijn University College in Antwerp. While Martijn became fascinated by wood, Klaas was completely overwhelmed by metals. While completing their education with additional courses, they opened their joint workshop in 2015. Over the past five years, it has expanded to become a multi-professional restoration and creative workshop which collaborates with other young restorers and craftspeople.

They specialise in the restoration of artworks and historical objects, such as a painting by Peter Paul Rubens, a fountain by Pol Bury or the book elevator designed by Henry van de Velde for his Book Tower in Ghent. Their baseline ‘science & heritage’ refers to their way of working, combining scientific research, high-tech innovative methods and traditional techniques. In doing so, they attach great importance to the deontology of the restorer. They also produce inventive, custom-made objects for architects, designers or private clients. Finally they implement a biological method to fight woodworms in artworks and churches using the Brachinoid wasps in cooperation with the German company APC-AG.
