Organic shapes

  • • Pierre is inspired by curves and natural movement
  • • He adapts his designs to interior spaces
  • • Möbius Console was his first success

Pierre Renart’s specialisation is organic shapes. His contemporary designs with their spectacular curves evoke the work of architects Zaha Hadid or Antoni Gaudí. Pierre is interested in creating curves that reflect nature rather than being man-made. He makes desks, consoles and tables, that seem to defy gravity and he seeks to adapt his designs to blend with interior spaces. His technique is that of lamination. He uses thin laminated layers of wood and glues them together with resin to bend them into the shapes he wants. It is no secret that Pierre's creations such as Möbius Console and Möbius Bench are inspired by the works of German mathematician August Ferdinand Möbius. This collection earned him a big following.

Wave Desk

Pierre Renart’s Wave Desk was designed in 2015. Initially made of a carbon fibre core with an American walnut veneer, Pierre completely reinvented its design in 2017, as part of a campaign towards more sustainable designs. He was then able to use wood as the only material, thanks to an innovative technique of lamination by which thin layers were glued together with resin.

Möbius Console in Padauk

Pierre Renart’s Möbius Console was designed in 2013, inspired by the Möbius strip, a non-orientable surface. As such, the console is designed as a ribbon of wood curling over itself ad infinitum. In December 2019, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris acquired a model in American walnut. In October 2020, the Mobilier National acquired this version in exotic Padauk.

Eclosion Coffee Table

Pierre Renart’s Eclosion Coffee Table is made with a base of interlacing ribbons of American Walnut and an oval glass tabletop. It is inspired by the kinetic back of the Genesis Armchair by the artist, itself inspired by a 1933 Art Deco armchair. The table was acquired by the Mobilier National in 2020.
