Mourne Textiles workshop and design studio was established in 1954 at the foothills of the Mourne Mountains in County Down. The business was originally founded by Norwegian textile designer, Gerd Hay-Edie whose decedents still run the business today. Gerd’s textile designs and pioneering weaving techniques became a staple of mid-century British design and Mourne Textiles collaborated with celebrated designers such as Robin Day, Hille and Conran; establishing their lasting influence upon the world of weaving.
Today, the mill connects the designs of the past with modern influences, creating collections of luxury home furnishing fabrics, cushions, blankets and scarves. Mourne pride themselves on a low environmental impact; the workings of the micro mill result in a low energy consumption and a small carbon footprint. In a world of standardisation, Mourne Textiles embraces the unique and works with a true respect for craftsmanship, artistry and design excellence.
