The language of textiles

  • • Morgane borrows tools from other crafts
  • • Her textile creations incorporate non-textile materials
  • • She is currently developing a special loom with a textile engineer

Morgane Baroghel-Crucq explores the technique of weaving through an intuitive and sensitive process of experimentation. With absolute mastery of the horizontal and Jacquard loom, she develops new techniques from non-textile materials. Morgane sharpened her creative sensibilities by studying applied arts and completing a degree in Textile Design at the École Nationale de Création Industrielle in Paris. Strongly inspired by light, in its aesthetics but also in the different approaches it suggests, she naturally oriented her research towards metal materials. Morgane finds in metal a subtle language related to textiles. Her work is a constant research process, an endless exploration of weaving.

Defrosting Dunes

Defrosting Dunes is a hand woven wall piece made from silk and brass yarns inspired by silent landscapes. The weaving of brass and silk gives the piece a bright light and reveals different colour tones: from blue to tan by way of green and beige. Delicate white shapes flow through the colour graduation.

Sand

Sand is a wall panel hand woven from silk and brass. Morgane Baroghel-Crucq draws her inspiration for the piece from light, creating a textile version of a horizon in a silent landscape. Using only black and grey shades for the colour graduation, Morgane weaves brass yarns to give an inner light to the composition. The artwork can be interpreted differently depending on the light of the room.

Aster

The form of this sculptural hand woven piece is created by the metal material itself. Morgane Baroghel-Crucq printed a pattern on the warp to give relief to the shape and enhance the golden shades on the brass thread.

Magma

Magma is a hand woven creation made from a combination of silks and paper. For this project Morgane Baroghel-Crucq worked with the artist Julia Genet of Tomas Avinent paper workshop. Morgane choose luminous and colourful marbling papers that she combined with her own silk painting. The result of this collaboration is a vibrant, optic artwork which looks grey from a distance but reveals subtle colours on closer inspection.

Chasma

Chasma is a sculptural hand woven wall piece. The distinctive characteristic of this piece is that the form is created by the metal material itself. Morgane Baroghel-Crucq painted on the warp a colour graduation of black and grey shades to enhance the depth and volume of the shape.
