The Monti family has been producing high quality handmade trimmings since 1870, when the first small workshop was established in Lombardy. At the beginning of the 20th century, Napoleone Monti renamed the company and moved it to Genoa, where it continued its production until the outbreak of World War II. The company’s original wooden looms were totally destroyed in the bombings, but not the will to continue a time-honoured tradition that depends on the skill of its craftspeople.

Monti Napoleone’s headquarters are now in Strevi, near Alessandria. The company continues to make unique products in a world where passementiers have almost disappeared. Since a buy-out in 1999, the company has been owned and managed only by the descendants of Napoleone Monti: father Giuseppe Moschini Monti takes care of buying materials and organising exhibitions, his son Paolo deals with sales and customer care and his other son Giovanni attends to collections and production. Not forgetting mother Marisa, who doesn't like to appear in person, but contributes to the high quality and good management of the company.
