It would be hyperbolic to say that anyone who has lived on planet Earth after 1940 has seen at least one handcrafted item created by Laboratorio Pieroni during their life. But this hyperbole would not be tremendously far from reality. Pieroni’s hats - and armours and breastplates - are protagonists of a countless list of Italian or international costume dramas which made the history of cinema. It’s almost impossible to mention all the costumiers, directors and actors who entrusted the exquisite craftsmanship, creativity and knowledge of Laboratorio Pieroni for their movies.
The list ranges from Elizabeth Taylor’s Cleopatra to Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette, from Stanley Kubrick’s Spartacus to Johnny Depp’s Pirates of the Caribbean, and includes countless Oscar-winning productions. All the creations of the Laboratorio, run today by Massimo Pieroni, son of Bruno the founder, are entirely made by hand, after extensive historical research and faithful reconstruction. The raw materials, unlimited in their variety, are mostly made in Italy.
