Since its foundation in 1883 the ceramic workshop Slovenská ĽUdová Majolika in Modra has undergone many changes leading to improvements. It has gained multiple awards, such as the Grand Prix at the 1925 Paris World Exhibition and the Grand Prix medal in Philadelphia in 1926. In November 2017, Slovenská ĽUdová Majolika was included in the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Slovakia. The master artisans at Slovenská ĽUdová Majolika have been developing inherited traditions, creating the ceramic soul of the region for almost 140 years now.
Each piece is a unique handmade and painted masterpiece decorated with traditional ornamentation. New design patterns are added and the new collections of Slovenská ĽUdová Majolika continuously fulfill their traditional purpose as functional household objects. The workshop continues its activities and efforts to educate on and preserve ceramic traditions, by partaking in events, publishing books and articles, or collaborating on design projects to bring traditional ornamentation and Slovak aesthetics to the 21st century.
