Rugs for your imagination

  • • Laure handcrafts rugs using her personal technique
  • • She draws inspiration from nature viewed through a microscope
  • • She uses eco-sustainable threads and recycled fibres

After wanting to learn a more hands-on craft than Graphic Design, Laure Kasiers enrolled in Textile Design. She made her first rug over ten years ago when she was expecting her first child. As she had to work a lot from home, she developed her own technique to create innovative surfaces and ended up creating three prototypes for her graduation. Ever since her initial introduction to textiles, Laure has always concentrated on thick and dense material – fit for upholstery rather than lace. The idea of creating a textile that was the object in itself and not a textile that will be incorporated into another object was central. Since then, inspired by natural shapes, patterns, structures and colours, she has created a variety of rugs and tapestry.

Slow #4

This circular rug is made with Laure Kasiers' technique of trimming fringes and assembling them in an organic way. The effect of movement is obtained by the compression of the material that creates irregular wool. The rug is made out of recycled wool in different blue tones.

Slow #6

This rug is made with Laure Kasier's personally developed technique of trimming fringes and assembling them in an organic way. The vibrant pattern makes shades resembling that of a lychee, ranging from beige to orange, with brown and purple tones. The recycled wool yarn is structured to evoke movement. Meanwhile the brighter colours add accents to the carpet.

Strata #2

The inspiration for this piece comes from a traditional wall along the edge of a canal in Cornwall, UK. The structure of vertical bricks, the layers of moss and the different plants have been beautifully interpreted by Laure Kasiers using different materials and thicknesses out of a mix of vertical and horizontal lines.

Morpho

This rug by Laure Kasiers is named Morpho as it was compressed from a rectangle to a circle through circular gestures that create a movement of a galactic effect. It is made out of navy blue wool with silver accents. Laure uses her personal techniques of assembling trimming fringes.
