Located on the borders of three French regions (Lorraine, Franche-Comté and Champagne), La Rochère is the oldest glass manufacturer in France. It was founded in the town of Passavant-la-Rochère in 1475 by Simon de Thysac, a gentleman glassmaker, who built the manufacture on the edge of the forest where all the materials required to make glass were available: sand, wood, water and ferns.

Run by the same family since 1868, La Rochère has perpetuated the tradition and know-how of master glassmakers for more than five centuries and survived through the ages. The manufacturer handcrafts glass, but also crystal, products. Specialising in tableware and decoration, La Rochère also works with architects and building professionals. It was La Rochère who most notably produced the glass tiles in the metro station called Châtelet-les-Halles in Paris, as well as the cast glass ingots for the new dome of the Grande Épicerie de Paris.
