Founded in 2017 in Porto, inusitado, meaning unusual in Portuguese, was the name founders Ana Brandão and Joana Bernardo chose for their graphic design studio. Its focus is the exploration of the sensorial world of paper, combining traditional binding techniques with contemporary design. Collaborating closely with artisans, Ana and Joana seek to preserve the artisanal techniques of handmade stationary where details such as texture, the smell of paper, the type of ink and binding methods are considered. This may seem quite unusual these days but they remain convinced of the importance of paper to sketch out ideas and make notes.
Their stationary collection comes in atypical shapes, with attention paid to utmost quality and always mindful of sustainability. Alongside their own products, Ana and Joana are open to collaborating on bespoke and customised projects in their quest to prove that even in a highly digital world the sensorial journey of paper still has its place in modern society.
