Letting the grain shine

Having spent his childhood in his father’s workshop, Gavin Coyle knew very early on that he would be using his hands to earn a living. “I remember making a small side table at the age of 13. I was enthralled that I could actually create a 3D object from my thoughts and ideas.” Desiring to progress in his chosen craft and explore a personal narrative, he first developed his skills at the City & Guilds of London Institute, and then took a BA in Furniture Design & Craftsmanship at Buckinghamshire New University. Since opening his own workshop in 2008, Gavin has focused on creating functional objects with beauty and longevity in mind. At the same time, he is intent on allowing the inherent qualities of the material to shine. Gavin is strongly committed to sustainability and strives to optimise production, making sure that waste is reused or recycled.

Chevron is designed to be a versatile and handy piece of furniture to have around the home. It is made from fast-growing Southern yellow pine and finished in a natural oil.

LUX stools
Gentle curves and geometric forms confer lightness and a welcoming character to these stools. Made from quarter-sawn Douglas fir wood, which has a distinctive straight grain, they are finished in a natural oil.

Zigzag platter
Created to withstand decades of everyday use, these platters are made using solid cherry wood for the handles and hardwearing maple for the body. The ‘saw tooth’ joint adds strength as well as a decorative flourish, while the boards are finished and oiled to a food safety standard. Ideal for presenting cheese, bread and charcuteries.
