Gárgula Gótica (Gothic Gargoyle) is dedicated to the art of stonemasonry. Founded in 1998 by Alzira Antunes and a partner, their story began within the walls of the Monastry of Batalha, a masterpiece of Portuguese Gothic art with incredible stone lace-work and carvings, commissioned by King João in 1385 to celebrate winning the battle of Aljubarrota. Through conservation and restoration, Gárgula Gótica gained a deep understanding of the raw material and achieved a high level of execution becoming a national and international reference for artwork in natural stone.
Today the workshop is composed of a multidisciplinary team of stonemasons and sculptors working alongside technical and world renowned artists, designers and craftspeople to create religious objects, statues, busts, furniture or even unique pieces such as the spectacular bookstand Stoner designed by the Haas brothers for Rihanna’s Ultra Luxury Supreme limited edition book. More recently, Gárgula Gótica launched its own brand MANTA - Handmade Stone Design, bringing the beauty of stone to the home.
