In the heart of Castrop-Rauxel in the area of the former Erin colliery that is now a landscape park, you will find Galeriehaus Grosche at the foot of the almost 70 metre high former winding tower. Already the contemporary architecture gives a hint that this space is unique in its own regard. The space hosts a workshop, gallery and a living area in one open plan area without explicit visual borders. In 2006, the doors opened to the newly constructed building with the aspiration to be a forum for contemporary jewellery design, hosting exhibitions and performances.
The history of the atelier dates back to 1995 when the jewellery designer Matthias Grosche took over the family’s jeweller’s shop as the third generation and began its transformation. At Galeriehaus Grosche, jewellery is a medium for communication, for conversations about applied arts and artistic design, about form and content, about values and ideas. Every year, Matthias Grosche and his atelier launch a new collection to challenge the idea of contemporary jewellery.
