Ceramic Studio “Estia” was established in 2014 in Tbilisi by three enthusiastic women – lawyer Elizabeth Dimitriadi, clothes designer Natia Kalmakhelidze, and classical philologist Natia Nozadze. The diverse backgrounds of the founders contributed greatly to the success of the studio, a studio which aims to offer a space that stands for the promotion of Georgian cultural heritage through the art of ceramics. Works created in the studio are inspired by Georgian traditional ceramics, literature, textile, alphabet and other national crafts. The collections of ceramic tableware, interior décor and souvenirs make the history and heritage tangible to the audience through an innovative approach to design.
The studio works in various ceramic techniques, among them wheel-throwing, hand-building, casting, painting and glazing. Estia was among the very first workshops in Tbilisi to launch ceramic masterclasses for visitors and to engage local youth in new clay experiences. The collections include hand-painted and glazed functional ceramic works distinguished for their vivid colours and diverse shapes. When visiting the workshop, one can enjoy a wide variety of tableware (cups, plates, pots and napkin holders), interior décor, vases and more, all on display in the showroom.
