Reinventing together the surfaces of life

  • • Elif and Davide are a couple in life and craft
  • • They work with designers and fashion creators
  • • Knotted surfaces are at the centre of their work

Craafts atelier, founded by Elif Malkoclar and Davide Dell'Acqua who are a couple in work, art and life, has specialised in handcrafting knotted surfaces for fashion and interiors for 20 years. Their venture is the result of ongoing research in high craftsmanship. Elif and Davide – a “double A” team, as they say – are both architects and artisans. They put their original know-how and creativity to use in collaborations with the high fashion industry and designers all over the world. Located in the heart of Tuscany, Craafts was born as a studio in 2013 from the experience of Ebi Handmade Accessories, and lives on the line between art and crafts, design and fashion, by recovering and revisiting ancient craft techniques, made contemporary, and thanks to a meticulous study of materials.

Pouf

This comfortable interior pouf is completely handmade from synthetic thread tape which, after being folded and stretched to form tabs, is mounted on a hemispherical crochet panel.

Handbag

This small green handmade bag is made of sequins, mounted on a panel with crochet work. It conveys the idea of lightness and movement, like a surface rippled by the wind. The lining is in satin, while the handle is a metal chain. It was made for the catwalk of a high fashion house.

Bag

This elegant, environmentally-friendly leather handbag is a cross between a handbag and a clutch bag. It is embellished with methacrylate sequins. The ring acts as a structure and a handle and was crocheted, as were the fringes. Tassels complete the ensemble.

Knotted leather indoor armchair

Inspired by the 1950s, this outdoor seating has a circular structure. The elaborate production process of the seat panel contrasts with the structural simplicity of the powder-coated metal tube. The triple knot processing of the leather, similar to macramé, makes for a comfortable seat.

Cord

Cord is a pendant lamp from the Endless collection, made by Luce5, Elif Malkoclar and Davide Dell'Acqua, and designed by Letizia Donati. It is made of a metal oval in which electronic and electrical parts are placed, a hollow oval, a neon flex and 5,000 hand-knotted and woven glass beads.
