Piecing it together

  • • Delphine is a self-taught mosaic artist
  • • Her work integrates upcycling of abandoned objects
  • • She founded Anis & Celadon in 2011

Delphine Lescuyer is a mosaic artist based near Paris. A graduate in drama, she first worked in theatre and then as a schoolteacher for 12 years. Mosaic art appeared later in her life. One day, she found an old cast iron table stand and had to make a tabletop for it. It was the beginning of a new adventure. She experimented with many different artistic mediums, until she founded her mosaic studio and workshop in 2011, Anis & Celadon, a reference to two coordinated colours. Influenced by artists like Niki de Saint-Phalle or Odorico, Delphine designs and creates original decorative mosaics for many purposes: tabletops, mirrors, wall or floor coverings. Through her work she translates what touches her, the poetry of certain moments. Flowers are very present in her work, as well as faces, lines and movement.

Colette tray

The mosaic decoration of this tray is composed of hundreds of hand cut ceramic and glass tesserae that form flower motifs of a Japanese style, like small delicate umbrellas. This stylised floral pattern contrasts with a monochrome background but is organised according to precise geometry and lines. Here, the decor Colette is applied on a round top in solid beech wood.

Josephine

Josephine is a ceramic vase, part of Delphine Lescuyer’s My Mates collection, an ironic nod to the expression 'trophy wife'. Each vase of this collection is made from recycled ceramics: decorated on its surface to transform it into an inspiring empowered woman’s face, here as a tribute to Josephine Baker. Josephine’s face and hair are from hand cut tiles of broken crockery and upcycled enamels, selected in a very sensitive approach to expression and details.

Simone

Simone, a unique ceramic vase, is part of Delphine Lescuyer’s My Mates collection, an ironic nod to the expression 'trophy wife'. Each vase of this collection is made from recycled ceramics. The vase is decorated to transform it into a feminist woman’s face, here as a tribute to Simone de Beauvoir. Simone’s face and hair are made of hand cut tiles of broken crockery and upcycled enamels, selected in a very sensitive approach to expression and details.

Bouquets

This mosaic wall panel is crafted from ceramic and glass. Circles of various colours form an aerial ensemble with floral motifs and stylised plants. The composition plays with the contrasting shades and reflections from gloss to matte. This mosaic is imagined as a contemporary patchwork illustrating the poetry of flowers. It is inspired by textile art and wall papers.

Banquet du soir / Evening Banquet (collaboration with Estelle Nahon)

This ceramic mosaic, Banquet, was born from a collaboration between Delphine Lescuyer and the ceramist Estelle Nahon. The mosaic is composed around enamelled handmade porcelain elements: bottles, cups, glasses. Its composition plays with contrast between smooth and fragmented surfaces, creating a kind of animated effect. It illustrates conviviality and French art de vivre.
