Cor Unum Ceramics is one of the few Dutch ceramic production houses that develops and produces new ceramic designs in collaboration with contemporary design talents. The company was first founded in 1953 by the Rooms-Katholieke kerk to provide long term employment for the mentally or physically disabled. Since 1959, the famous ceramicist Zweitse Landsheer has led Cor Unum as artistic director. Under his 30 years tenure, he has transformed the sheltered workshop in to a creative hub. In 1998, the company was privatised and Landsheer's daugther Charlotte continues his spirit as the current director.
Famed for its mastery of black-fired and white-fired clay techniques, the manufacturer's work can be found in prominent select stores like Mint Shop (UK) and Art Jameel Shop (AE). Their name has also attracted various design maestros including Ron Arad , Marc Newson, Gijs Bakker, Konstantin Grcic and Ross Lovegrove to develop its Unica Art Collection. The company also nurtures up-and-coming talents such as Joris Laarman, Bertjan Pot and Wieki Somers by bringing to life their experimental pieces, which you can enjoy at their shop.
