In 1992, Juan Carlos Albarrán Montealegre opened his workshop together with Ana Fernandez Pecci and Ramón Gonzalez Colilla. Juan Carlos had studied at the art school of Talavera de la Reina, one of the most famous faïence cities in Spain not only for crockery but also for pictures painted on tiles. Juan Carlos chose this profession because he considered it was a means of expression for his creativity. His specialty is clay modelling, particularly complex figures that he creates himself or in collaboration with other artists, but he is also a specialist in the ceramic lathe.

His love of tradition, his respect for antique pieces and his identity as an autochthone of Talavera, added to a very contemporary and innovative way of making, has enriched this distinctive craft and made of this workshop one of the most inspiring and modern in Talavera. Juan Carlos’s first piece of work was the reproduction of an 18th century crockery set, today his inspiration is found in the centre of Talavera, where there is no shortage of beauty in antique ceramics and classical sculpture.
