The cup maker

  • • Albena creates everyday tableware
  • • She is inspired by children illustrations
  • • She enjoys exploring the form of the cup

Albena Djokova's first encounter with applied arts came at an early age when she started collecting small ceramic figurines - a passion which lasted throughout her childhood. Later on she turned from a connoisseur to an artisan herself. A decisive moment in her art education at the National Art Academy in Sofia was her exchange semester spent in Faenza, Italy. There Albena had the opportunity to explore the inherent ceramics tradition of the place. It was here that she decided to become a professional ceramicist and start her own atelier in Sofia after finishing her studies. Ever since she has worked hard on establishing her own studio and a dedicated local clientele.

Biscuit and candy box

These biscuit boxes are made for people who live in a big city but often dream of a small house that smells like grandma's sweets. The design of these handcrafted porcelain boxes is inspired by those of modern factory boxes intended for "quick" sweet pleasures. The porcelain pieces have been decorated with an underglaze and coloured glazes.

Handbuilt lace

These dishes and cup are handcrafted from a naturally dark, geranium hued stoneware clay, and decorated with porcelain casting slip. The combination of two so different materials creates the feeling of fine lace laid on a strong but rough surface.

Cups with heart handles

The heart shaped handles of these cream white porcelain cups are decorated with individually placed porcelain drops, which contrast against the smooth surface of the cup itself. As you hold it in your hands, you have the feeling of a pleasant "smooth roughness".
